How OPL Operates
Enroll - First-step requires enrolling with AOL prior to attending training.
Accredit - In order to attain Professional Logger status, a company must accumulate an Initial 32 credit hours. Completion of training in the two categories of topics relevant to the current job of any working owner or employee qualifies for program credit.
Maintain - Following Initial OPL accreditation, completing a minimum of 10 credit hours per year is required to maintain OPL status.
Credits are tracked on a calendar year-basis, and on a company basis. Completing the required initial 32-hours qualifies an OPL company to retain its OPL accreditation for the entire next calendar year. Completion of 10-hours maintenance this year, therefore retains OPL status through the next calendar year.
Category A - Forest Practices: Basic Forest Practice Workshop, or other short-courses on Oregon Forest Practices Act and Rules programs, offered by Oregon Department of Forestry.
Category B - General: operator business & forestry; harvesting, roading or operational methods, other harvest-related business such as: bidding, contracts, safety, first-aid, loss control, law and regulations, financials, accounting and forest policy.
Completion of the Basic Forest Practices Workshop is required to satisfy six (6) credits of the initial 32 credits.
To maintain OPL status after initial recognition, at least four (4) of the ten credits of training each year must be in Category A-Forest Practices training.
